Ashtree Junior School Panoramic Photo-1965

Jennifer Verdon

I went to Ashtree when it first opened, after having to go on a bus to Campshill…Mr Speight was the Headmaster of the Junior School. I left the school in 1966 when my family moved to California…I have such fond memories of the school and all my teachers.

How are you? If you happen to see this, please do upload your photo to this site. It would be great to see if I can spot myself and my friends on it.

    Best wishes

  • I can’t see myself in these pictures. Maybe I was sick that day. I can’t see my brother Alan either.
I remember Mr speight as being very old, but he looks young in the picture. Strange that.

  • I went to Ashtree. I don’t think I am in the photo but I think I recognise my sister Faith Allen in the top row. My favourite teachor was mr hetterley. Does anyone know what happened to him.

  • I was in the 1st year of intake in September 1961 and have the June 1963 photographic equivalent of the above, though, like Sarah Evans, mine is also rather wrinkled.

  • Like Paul Reeve – who I was together with in the same class for 4 years – I have fantastic memories of Ashtree, including getting the slipper on a daily basis from Mr Thomas!!! Perhaps that wasn’t my fondest memory but what a great school with a great headmaster – the one and only Mr Speight! A great man.

  • Many thanks for sharing this photo. I have very fond memories indeed of Ashtree – great fun and a very good school. I know its a panoramic pic, but can anything be done to help with the resolution, which is lost as soon as I try to zoom in. It would be great to spot faces again!

  • Please if you can put the 1973 picture on or e-mail it to me so I can repair it and then put it on. I was at Ashtree from 1970-74 and so am probably in the picture, which I do not have a copy of. My form teacher in 1973 was Pete Browning

  • Long school photos are problematic and perhaps the best solution isn’t actually to scan the photo but to photograph it in sections. These could then be digitally stitched together. Lots of cameras these days have a panorama setting which automatically does the stitching, so this could be a solution?

  • I have the 1973 school photo in my hot little hand now but it’s so long and wrinkly I wouldn’t know how to begin scanning it in 🙁
