Leftie, through and through ! And so pleased no one gave me grief at Bandley Hill ! As a teacher myself , I’ve delighted when tutoring , in helping all children feel proud of their writing .I have often been complimented on my hand writing , and had a career based on the visual arts , of course !😄 And am shocked when I hear of people younger than me being ‘corrected’ for left writing – medieval attitude , to my mind .
Regarding the teacher who wasn’t fond of lefties at Bandley Hill Infant School, I believe that was Mrs Turtle who is third from the left in the photograph.
I too suffered for being a leftie, but so was my dad (although he was made to write right-handed). My husband, and our three children are left handed and very proud of it.
I too went to Bandley Hill Infants and Junior School 1959 to 1963. I too was a “leftie” and still am. I think one of the teachers in the Infants was Mrs Turtle? Lucky I still have my Infant School Reports. I was Ruth Andrews and lived in Bandley Rise. I was teased by some of the teachers for having a Mancunian accent, and for not pronouncing some words properly!
I attended Bandley Hill school from 1959 until 1963. It is lovely to see this photo of the infant staff. Happy memories of Miss Phillips, Mr Warner and Mrs Hildrich. Difficult memories of the teacher third from the left back row. I was left handed and she used to hit my hand with a ruler to get me to write right handed! It didn’t work I’m still a south paw! I think Mrs Thomas was the head of infants – centre front.
I went to Bandley Hill Infants and Junior School, I remember you Gerrard Huntly-Peck, in fact you were in my thoughts only a few weeks ago, Happy memories.
