  • Extract from Hertfordshire Express 26/03/1921:
    Stevenage War memorial on the Bowling Green unveiled by Admiral Fellowes.
    “On Saturday (19th) afternoon, all the shops were closed and flags flown at half mast”
    The obelisk is 23 ft high, executed in Whitebed Portland Stone.
    The Crusader’s sword is made of bronze.

    Builder: Wray & Fuller (Chelmsford)
    Cost: £1,100
