  • The Deputy Head who went up with Mr Burridge was Mr Fox (also a French teacher as mentioned). Jack Starkey had retired in the summer of 1969, at the end of my first year.

  • I recal a Royal Naval, Wessex helicopter landing in the school 1983?

  • Rather belatedly, can I add that the occasion was reported in the Stevenage Comet with a photograph of Mr Burridge, in mortar board and gown talking to the pilot, who I think was in the Navy. The Comet remarked that wind and rain made no impression on the Headmaster. I left the school in July 1970.

  • I was at the school in the final term of 1970. I recall the visit of the RAF helicopter, and our French teacher going up in it for a short joy ride.

  • I was there.  I reckon it would have been 1970 in my second form.  The RAF gave a chat to the whole school and then we all stood near the helicopter and watch it give a ride to the then headmaster Mr Burridge and his deputy Mr Starkey.  Us kids missed out on the treat of course.

  • I vaguely remember this – I must have been about 10 or 11 years of age and it was the school fete at around 1970. If I am correct the news broadcaster Reginald Bosanquet was the star guest – I think he may have arrived by helicopter! This might prod other people’s memories.
