  • I was a Police Sergeant at Stevenage asked to provide a presence for public safety when, at the final part of the demolition, the chimney stack was going to be ‘blown’.

    As a former pupil (1970-77) I was struck by the coincidence of me being there at the end.

    I liberated a fragment of the grey brick stack as a keepsake – with the approval of the site manager of course!

  • My friend worked for the local authority and after the closure they removed big areas of St Michaels playing fields to re-turf other schools in Stevenage and Letchworth
