  • A visit to this market on a Saturday morning was enjoyed when taking an interest in Mr Sell’s comic stall (a wheel cart). His parents ran a small grocery shop in Basils Road and that too was a joy to call and buy comics or sweets. Fond memories.

  • I worked on a market stall when I was young in the old town, and on a stall in the outside market in the new town centre. I remember selling pegs, had to shout out to sell them

  • My family moved to Stevenage in 1956. I was nearly 6 and my sister 3. My mother bought our winter coats every year from this market.I think there were 2 sisters running the stall. Whatever happened to proper old market stalls, those days are sadly gone. Why do we have ‘tat’ shops now selling cheap rubbish, the town is full of them.
