Broadwater
Broadwater, or Bradewatre, was originally a place of more importance than Stevenage itself, which was only a village in the administrative district, or Hundred, of Broadwater. There had been an Anglo-Saxon settlement there in the 5th century or even earlier, but it subsequently declined into little more than a hamlet.
