Symonds Green

Symonds Green was not always called Simmons Green and in fact up until the 17th Century it was known as ‘Wolwenwyk’, or variations of that name, such as ‘Wolnewyk’ or ‘Woolenwyk’.

In 1700 it is thought that a William Symond bought the land and that is why the name was changed to Symonds Green; however there has been no definitive evidence found on this matter to support or deny this theory.
