Memories of Bandley Hill Infants' School

Amanda Hopwood

I went to Bandley Hill Infant school in 1967, I was allowed to start earlier than others because I could already read and write. I remember making a clay thumb pot (the kiln or drying cupboard was in the corner of the classroom) and sitting on the carpet to share what we had done at the weekend.

  • I am a retired teacher – and I wish all schools made children feel as comfortable with themselves as Bandley Hill did! Except one teacher I had, for a whole year, (who will remain nameless for now) who was so critical, she enabled ME to make sure I was kind to children and knew my job was to like children and help them feel good about themselves!! Miss Booker, Mrs Hildick, the lovely Mrs Watson, wonderful Mr (and Mrs) Spiers, the firm but fair man teacher in y6 and the kindly Mr Coram, not fazed by my Ancient Greek story, referring to bigamy!!! Such happy days!
