  • As a child (1960s), Corey’s Mill road was a country lane that ran in woodland (Whitney wood on one side) that linked the old Great North Road to the Hitchin road.  Now it has long been a dual carriageway serving the Lister hospital.  The Great North Road was a dead straight road from Stevenage Old Town to Graveley and was a testing ground for Vincent Motorcycles fresh of the production line at sheds at Alleynes school.  What a job!!!  And they reached 150 mph on the Black Shadow.
