Polar Bear, by Mark Harvey
By Pauline Maryan
This Portland stone sculpture is perhaps one of the best known and loved in the town. It was placed at the Glebe in 1964.
Mark Harvey’s sculptures in wood do not appear to have survived, for example The Fish (1961) at Elm Green, and The Donkey (1969) at Bandley Hill Park, otherwise known as the Donkey Park, although this has been replaced by a more recent version.
Mark Harvey lectured at Goldsmith’s College, and lived at Aston End.
