I was in the orchestra! But thank you Miss Harris! How did you teach us so Much music and get us to love Handel and Mozart instead of the Beatles and Stones! ??? Thank you!! Pauline Minnis
Yes l remember singing in the choir and many of the girls in the photo. I am Sally Louise Wilkinson, l have long hair parted down the middle. I am in the front row standing next to Miss Harris. I loved singing and being part of the choir. I stayed at the girls school up to the upper sixth when l achieved my A levels.
Yes I was! This was the Junior Choir, years 1,2 and 3 (or 7,8 and 9 as they are called nowadays). I think we sang Dona Nobis Pacem (Mozart?) and a song about scissors/sewing which went “snip-a-snap”. You can see our music teacher Miss Harris in the crimplene suit, and our accompanist/piano teacher Miss Abbott (later Mrs Humphrey) on the right hand side. I can remember the names of most of the girls from my year, mainly in the back row and at the sides. Me, I’m right at the front in the groovy NHS specs! PS We are wearing different uniforms because those of use with ties were the old Grammar School intake, we also have the green pleated skirts. The younger girls had navy blue straight skirts, no ties, and nylon v-necked shirts.

Just remembered that the second song we sang was an adaptation of the Spinning Song from Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULXeP1tV9hQ
